Moving Violations: Taxi
Extending my continuing exploration of abstract interrelations within nominal realism, these paintings are a "vehicle" for the plasticity of the pictorial plane, a push pull that both flattens and expands the landscape. Trucks, signage and street scenes are the graphic metaphors I use for spatial violation.
For example in the painting "Bird," the interior of the cab becomes a positive figure in space. Inspired by traveling via taxi, these scenes incorporate parts of the cab and moments seen through the windows.
